How to Listen to the Rocketship Rodeo

“My thirsty needed whisky and my belly wanted beans…”

This was the website for the rocketship rodeo from last year.  I was able to reconstruct it in hopes that I’d bring the show back this fall.  In the meantime, please enjoy All the Right Reasons by the Jayhawks.

This wednesday at 3pm, The Rocketship Rodeo will graduate from the Lab and be on-air live for all of Iowa City to hear. For those listening from far away, you can access the stream on KRUI’s website.  So, if you love country, alt country, bluegrass, rockabilly, vaudeville, and great Americana, please listen in on Wednesday. Here’s a promo if interested, Rocketship Rodeo – Monday 8am Promo – Cherry Pie Hardware Store.

So far, the Rocketship Rodeo has been produced Monday mornings at 8am (9am eastern).  Of course, you can listen over the Interwebs every monday  tomorrow in the Lab @ KRUI.  Click here for how to listen.

I am the guy that runs the Rocketship Rodeo. Here are some no depression-esque programs I listen to:

Route 78 West – Great Oldtime country, mostly from the early days of country music on 78 records. Nice pre-vinyl crackle and pops.

American Roots – Newer alt. country

Swingin’ Doors – Hardcore Twang

WNCW – an NPR Country Radio program

PS I am not allowed to podcast the Rocketship Rodeo per KRUI’s by-laws, but you can listen online.  For more information, check “How to Listen to the Rocketship Rodeo

Right now, I am listening to album called Evelyn Evelyn. Its a folky rock opera, just like Tommy or Jesus Christ Superstar or The Wall, but its about a set of conjoined twins named Evelyn (and Evelyn) who run away from their chicken farm and have adventures with truckers, circus freaks, no-tell motels, practicing their ukulele and discovery of MySpace.com. Beautifully concieved, lightly produced, well-written and wonderfully ridiculous!!!

I am planning to play a few tracks for Monday’s Rocketship Rodeo. Most likely: “You Only Want Me ‘Cause You Want My Sister” and “Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn?”
